lost my soul in seoul

Updated: Oct 18, 2018

Look, you can have your chain go-to places, your bougie cafes and beer halls,. But I stand by what I say when nothing beats a cramped, cluttered and personalized hole in the wall; fronting a retaining wall, off the main street.

But the level of hospitality I experienced cannot be beat in this small cafe located minutes from "Guest House Seoul" and Hongik Station Exit 5.

made a friend

So I stepped in, and the gentleman pulled up a stool for me, the handed me this large mug with sweet potatoes that he just microwaved. Told me to go over to the bench and enjoy with my coffee. he said its good for digestion.

Several minutes later he gave me a plate of kimchi and tofu w/ meat. He ate along with me too. I think he was enjoying breakfast and I walked in at just the right time.

The kimchi and tofu was a bit spicy, he told me to eat the kimchi with the sweet potatoes, it goes down easier.

Then we finished off breakfast with ginger beer, fresh from the pot. After enjoying a spicy meal with coffee, the ginger beer really helped my stomach settle and relax.

This man was a gem, gonna miss this place, but I will never forget it.

Its not just about the coffee that elevates a place in memory, but these minute experiences. Although we speak different languages, this man will forever be the king of hospitality.
